There are two basic types of caskets: metal and wood.

Wooden caskets are made from all species of wood: poplar, oak, maple, birch, cherry, walnut and mahogany.

Metal caskets are made from carbon steel, stainless steel, coper and bronze. Some metal caskets are designed to be protective caskets, seam welded, have a rubber gasket and closing mechanism designed to keep out grave elements.

Interior materials for both wood and metal caskets are made from satin, different qualities of crepe, linen and velvets.

What makes one casket cost more than the other is the material the casket is made from and the workmanship involved in making the casket.

One can understand that an urn shaped casket made from mahogany with velvet interior would cost more than a square shaped casket made from poplar with a crepe interior. Also a casket made of stainless steel that is designed to be protective, would cost more than one made of carbon steel and is not designed to be protective.

All caskets come with a warranty from the manufacturer relevant to the product involved.
