Andy Donald Jr. Obituary
On September 18, 2020 God softly whispered to Andy Donald Jr., job well done, it’s time to come home.
Born June 7, 1925 in Bellamy, Alabama. Andy was the only son of Andy Sr. and Annie Mims. Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 41 years, Bernice Pope Donald and two sisters, Annie Tate (J.V. Tate) and Mamie Weatherly (Willie). He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.
Barely 18 years old, Andy trained with the Merchant Marines in Florida. He served a year in Pearl Harbor during World War II supporting base reconstruction after the bombing.
In 1948, Andy moved to Pennsylvania for work. He found a job with Bethlehem Steel, where he worked until retirement after 36 years service. Andy received numerous awards and promotions. He was very proud that in 36 years, he only missed 2 days of work and was only late 3 times because of snow.
A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years, Andy served as Trustee under the late Rev. Andrew Tilly. At Pleasant Hill, Andy met his wife Bernice Pope Donald. Years into marriage, Andy and Bernice were blessed to purchase 5 acres of land where they helped raise several generations of nieces and nephews.
Andy had a passion for hunting, fishing and bowling. Enjoying his bowling league, he earned a few trophies for a perfect 300 game. He loved fishing at “camp” and around the Johnstown area. An avid hunter, Andy traveled the country on hunting trips and acquired an admired gun collection.
Andy loved his family and friends. He was an honest mentor to many, always available to lend a helping hand. Andy enjoyed talking to and meeting new people, never afraid to leave them with a little bit of his wisdom. Viewing will be at Moskal-Reid funeral home on Friday at 10a.m. until time of Homegoing service at noon. Rev. Clyde Williams Officating. Committal Richland Cemetery
