Obituary


Born on September 18, 1925 and passed away on April 1, 2022. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Vance) Chervenak. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Charles Stanley Wisz, to whom she married May 12, 1956, brother John Elmer Chervenak and sister Mary Ann (Chervenak) Palumbo. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by children, Mary Anna, wife of Edward Benedick of Johnstown, Charlotte Marie Debias of Windber, Charles John, husband of Dawn (Miller), and Marsha Wisz wife of David Strushensky of Johnstown. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 god children, Raymond, Cynthia, and Sandra and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dorothy was a lifetime member SS Casimir and Emmerich Catholic Church until the merging in 2009 and then she joined St. Francis of Assisi.

Dorthy loved all the polka dances, she enjoyed dancing and she was a big church supporter at any church event and helped at all her church's fish fries. She was a member of the church's mother's club.

After 10th grade she moved to NY. From 1942-1944 she worked in a flower shop with her cousin Madeline, from 1945-1949 she worked at Sunway Cleaners in Johnstown as a presser, from 1949-1956 she worked at Troy Laundry as presser, and she was known as one of the last Cambria City Girls.

Dorothy's wishes were to have all contributions directed to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. She had a special place in her heart for sick children as she survived breast cancer.

There will be a viewing from 9-1030 AM Thursday April 7th, 2022 at Moskal-Reid Funeral Home 79 J St., followed by a Service at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with committal immediately following at Grandview Cemetery.
