Obituary

Justine Ellen Karstens, 34, passed away in Johnstown, PA on March 20, 2023.  She was born December 13, 1988 in Ogden, Utah, amidst a blizzard.  Justine was the beloved daughter of Kyle and Deborah Karstens.

Justine grew up around the world with her Navy family, living in Florida, California, Guam, Japan, Maryland, Washington state, and Hawaii.  She thrived while living in Hawaii, enjoying its sunny tropical weather and sandy beaches.  Justine graduated in 2006 from Kalaheo High School in Kailua, Hawaii.  She attended Florida State University, and later graduated from College of Southern Maryland.  In 2016 she married Geoff Williams in Pensacola.  They lived in Florida, Southern Maryland, and north of Washington, D.C.  In 2020, Geoff and Justine amicably ended their marriage.  In the words of Justine, “We still love each other, but we are better as friends.”  They maintained a loving friendship and continued to be there for each other.

Justine delighted in horseback riding in her teen years.  She enjoyed being in the company of her friends and family, and she loved cuddling with her rescued cats named Xena and Butters.  Justine possessed quick-witted humor, an insightful mind, and sharp negotiating skills.  She introduced her family to the movie Napoleon Dynamite, which became a continuing source of quotable lines within the family.

Justine is survived by her parents, her brother Michael, sister Kendal, Grandfather Larry McCoy, Grandparents Gene and Kathryn Karstens, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Justine was welcomed into heaven by her loving Grandmother Martha Yarnell.

Justine’s life will be celebrated on Saturday April 1st at 1:00 pm at her parents’ home in Johnstown. In the spring, we will plant a memorial garden for Justine.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Cambria County at https://www.humanecambria.org/ways-to-give/how-to-give/
