Lionel Eugene Mickens

Lionel Eugene Mickens, born July 18, 1960, in Johnstown, PA, was tragically called before God on April 30, 2022.  He was the son of Geraldine Patterson and the stepson of Pete Patterson.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lejoy Dixon and Matthew Thompson, brother Brett Mickens, and his grandson Deajrian Messiah Hudson.  

He is survived by his parents, his siblings, Marcella Holloway (James) of Florida,  Mitchell Mickens of Florida, Malissa Carter of Florida, and Daniael Murphy of Florida.  He is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles and aunts.  

Lionel graduated from Lincoln University on the dean's list in 1983 where he earned a bachelor's degree in history.  One of his many passions was authoring poems and plays.  After college he married Michelle Thomas and fathered two children, Lionel E. Mickens Jr, Malissa Mickens, and step daughter Melenia Newton.  He was blessed with five grandchildren, Deajrian, Raelynn, Lennox, Chance and Rylee.  

Lionel had a close relationship with God and loved the Lord with all of his heart and soul.  He was in the process of answering his call from God using his stage name, "Malik" and was planning a casting call for his upcoming play "Go Get your Life Back", which was to be performed at the State Theater of Johnstown.  

He loved his family and did what ever he could for those in need, often taking in homeless individuals and providing them with a place to sleep.  

A viewing will be held on Thursday May 5, 2022 from 5-8 pm and a memorial service will be planned at a later date in Lehigh Acres, FL.
