Obituary

Minnie Broom, 88 peacefully transitioned December 18, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.  She was born December 7, 1933 to the late Lester Jones and Minnie (Murell)  Jones.  Preceded in death by her parents, husbands Archie Matthews and Robert Lee Broom, brothers Charles and Willie Jones.  Minnie is survived by her loving children from Johnstown, Theresa Elaine Broom and Leslie Lorraine (Broom) Johnson, from Chicago IL, Robert Lee Broom Jr. and Ruben Will Broom. 

Minnie was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Kaya Wiggins, LaShonda Meyers, Daniel Broom, Latoya Broom, Kevin Broom, Darius Broom, Khyeal Broom, Marqay Broom, Artrell Broom, Latreas Broom.  and 10 great grandchildren:  Triston Russell, Devin Broom, Khatami Broom. Aaliyah Young, Delano Collins, Dalilyah Patton, Nayla Broom, Jason Meyers, Jahad Myers and Kevonte Broom.   Also survived by her sister in law Elizabeth Betty Jones, Johnstown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

After graduating from Johnstown Minnie worked at a hospital for disabled children in Elizabeth, PA.  She later traveled to Chicago where she met and married Robert Lee Broom, together they had 4 children.  After the death of her husband, Minnie returned to Johnstown, where she lived the remainder of her life among family and friends. 

Minnie was a member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, where she enjoyed church service, reading her Bible, going to basket parties and word puzzle books.  A viewing will be held at Mt. Sinai, 351 2nd St. Johnstown PA 15909 at 1030 am followed by a home going service at 1100 am.  Professional services provided by Moskal-Reid Funeral Home 79 J St. Johnstown, PA 15906.
