Thomas Patrick Fleming Sr.

November 7, 1938 ~ August 29, 2020 (age 81)

FLEMING – Thomas P., Sr., 81, Johnstown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 29, 2020.  Born November 7, 1938, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to parents John Leo Fleming and Mary (Molchan) Fleming Podplesky.  Preceded in death by parents; siblings Edward Fleming, John Fleming, and Betty (Fleming) Briosi; and grandson Ryan Fleming.   Survived by his loving family: wife of nearly 61 years, Lois (Bendick); children Thomas P. Fleming, Jr. and wife Linda, Janice (Fleming) Layton and husband Jeff, and Denise Fleming; and grandchildren Sarah Layton and Tyler Fleming.  Also survived by brothers Richard Fleming of Sunrise, Florida, and Joseph Podplesky of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Tom joined the Marine Reserves in 1955 before graduating from Johnstown High School in 1956.  Tom continued to serve in the Marines until 1960, then returned to Johnstown and worked at Penelec for 36 years, beginning as a lineman and retiring as a systems operator.  Tom would tell you he was most grateful for three things: his wife, his children, and his employer for providing the opportunity to retire at age 55 so he could babysit his three grandchildren.  Tom and Lois began dating in the eighth grade and remained high school sweethearts.  They were married in November of 1959.  Tom’s love for Lois gave him the strength to serve as her caretaker until recently, when his own health declined.  The family would like to thank Dr. J. Eric Wieczorek and staff, and Tom’s caregivers at Conemaugh Hospital, Interim HealthCare, Arbutus Park Manor, Forest Hills Personal Care Home, and AseraCare Hospice, for their excellent and compassionate care.  The family also extends its gratitude to Pastor David Streets, West Hills Community Church, for his spiritual support over the years.  At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or funeral.  Arrangements by Moskal-Reid Funeral Home and Grandview Cemetery.
